A obra é conhecida por sua riqueza de detalhes, imagens vívidas e descrições dos tormentos do Inferno e da glória do Paraíso, além de sua complexidade e profundidade temática. A Divina Comédia é uma das obras mais estudadas e influentes da literatura mundial e deixou um impacto significativo na cultura e na história italiana e europeia.

Dante Alighieri é considerado um dos maiores poetas da literatura mundial e é conhecido como o "sumo poeta" da língua italiana. Nasceu em Florença, na Itália, entre 21 de maio e 20 de junho de 1265, e faleceu em Ravena, em 13 ou 14 de setembro de 1321.

Dante teve uma vida agitada e controversa, tendo se envolvido em disputas políticas em sua cidade natal, o que o levou a ser exilado. Durante seu exílio, ele escreveu suas principais obras, incluindo a Divina Comédia, que é considerada sua obra-prima e uma das maiores obras da literatura mundial.

A influência de Dante na literatura e na cultura ocidental é enorme, e sua poesia foi admirada por grandes escritores, poetas e artistas, como Victor Hugo, William Blake, T.S. Dante Alighieri was born in 1265 in Florence. His family, of minor nobility, was not wealthy nor especially distinguished; his mother died when he was a child, his father before 1283. At about the age of 20 he married Gemma Donati, by whom he had three children. Little is known of Dante's formal education-it is likely to have included study with the Dominicans, the Augustinians, and the Franciscans in Florence, and at the university in Bologna. In 1295 he entered Florentine politics and in the summer of 1300 he became one of the six governing Priors of Florence. In 1301, the political situation forced Dante and his party into exile. For the rest of his life he wandered through Italy, perhaps studied at Paris, while depending for refuge on the generosity of various nobles. He continued to write and at some point late in life he took asylum in Ravenna where he completed the Divine Commedia and died, much honoured, in 1321.
