Memórias Póstumas de Brás Cubas (Portuguese Edition) Kindle Edition

4.6 4.6 out of 5 stars 2,698 ratings

This book is a really great read, especially if your first language is Brazilian Portuguese. It is not my first language and I struggled with some of the more antiquated portuguese, but the humor in this book is unmatched. I couldn't put it down!

The ebook has many typos and glitches, but the story is one of the best works by Machado de Assis. It is incredibly current in its criticism of society in general. Timeless, funny, witty.

I thought “a book is a book” but this edition has so many typographical issues, bad font of varying sizes, margins that are so small that you have to read into the crevices… makes a good text so hard to read that I ordered a different edition and will toss this one out.

The cover looks horrible, with some words cut off on the bottom of the front cover, the cover image itself extremely pixilated, and some of the first pages were cut wrong, as shown in the picture. The font of the front and back cover looks blurry as well.

Because some pages were folded when the book was cut, they do not line up properly when folded back as shown in the attached images.

Although the quality of the paper inside the book seems to be of good quality, this could possible be a bootleg copy of the 4th edition, judging by the poor and unprofessional quality of it. It just looks... off.

There are various versions of this book available in Portuguese, and I chose this one because it was the cheapest. Well, you get what you pay for. The editors did a very poor job. There are mistakes like missing accents (é vs. e) and misplaced hyphens that distract the reader. It looks like they just copy-pasted the text from a source without ever reading it.

The “book” is more like a pamphlet printed in someone’s garage or basement. While the cover looks nice, the pages are cheap, the layout is horrible and the print is incredibly small. It looks like whoever printed it cut and pasted from a word doc.

Miserável seja a realidade!
