O presente livro resulta da dissertação de mestrado da autora na PUC/SP, elaborada sob a minha supervisão. Foi assim com grata satisfação que vi este volume vir à luz, de modo a atingir um público mais amplo. De fato, o presente texto apresenta um conteúdo que, apesar de rico e instigante, é pouco conhecido do leitor. Em sete capítulos e mais uma Conclusão, a autora apresenta um aspecto do pensamento de Carl Jung, sua análise da alquimia enquanto manifestação da profundidade psicológica do homem. Ao fazê-lo, ressalta um alquimista em particular, Gerardus Dorneus, que viveu na Alemanha no início do século XVII, com sua leitura dos três graus de conjunção alquímicos, em direção à vivência religiosa no Unus Mundus. Além de um embate com a própria obra de Jung, a autora recolhe um número significativo de outras fontes, alquímicas ou não, para dar sustento à sua tese. Com erudição, desenvolve seu argumento ao dialogar com essas fontes, enfatizando principalmente a reconciliação, tanto psicológica quanto religiosa. Assim sendo, é um livro recomendado não só para os interessados em Jung e na Psicologia Analítica, como também para os que desejam conhecer melhor esta fascinante prática que tanto marcou o oriente e o ocidente, a alquimia.

Cintia Hoffmann is a Clinical Psychologist and has been working with Jungian Analysis for 20 years. Master in Religion Sciences at the Pontifical Catholic University of São Paulo, with emphasis on the line of research of Religion and the symbolic field, she conducts research based on the comparative study of Carl G. Jung theory and alchemical symbols as a manifestation of man's psychological depth. Her place of preference is behind the scenes, in the intimacy of Jungian analysis, far from the excessive exposure of the digital marketing persona, so fashionable in these days, but which harms the mechanism of projection in the therapeutic setting, since it is part of the cure in the patient-analyst treatment that the psychologist be, above all, a "faceless" individual.
